What a neighbourhood adds up to

Preview — invented neighbourhoods, not real data. Change the three settings below.

Pledges aren't collected. Nothing leaves your account, nothing is pooled, and nothing is held on your behalf — a pledge is a plan you make on your own screen. Nothing on this page earns anything, and no figure below includes interest. This is simply what those plans would add up to. Where the money would sit if pools ever go live is described further down.

$736 a month is what 25 households in a modest block would be setting aside together, at about $29 each. Not everyone contributes the same amount — it is a share of what each household has left, so a household whose bills aren't covered pledges nothing.

Where it would go

If community pools go live, pledges would be collected into a reserve account for your zip code, held by a partner institution rather than by IPA. You'd be asked to opt in again before a single dollar moved.

Interest that such an account earned would stay in that zip code's reserve, so the balance the neighbourhood has grows. It wouldn't be paid out to you, and it isn't a return on what you pledged.

None of this exists today. No money is collected, no reserve account has been opened, no partner has been appointed, and no rate is offered, promised or implied. What a reserve is for and who decides how it's spent are open questions we haven't answered yet.

Which is why the totals above are plain addition. A five-year figure that quietly included interest would be inventing a product that doesn't exist.

This is a preview built from fictional households, not a live calculator — nothing here is saved or sent anywhere. The figures are arithmetic on invented numbers, and the multi-year ones are pledges added together, with no interest or growth assumed. No money is collected by IPA or anyone else, nothing is held on anyone's behalf, and no return is offered or promised to you. It does not give investment, tax, insurance or legal advice.
